a story waiting to be told:

The rich and unique history of the oil industry in Kern County is a story waiting to be told. From the early uses of tar and asphaltum by Yokuts Indians, through the early discovery wells and gushers at Midway-Sunset and Kern River fields, right up to the oil industry of today, this fascinating story is told in an exciting new oil exhibit at the Kern County Museum that focuses on the importance of oil as a resource and its significant impact on our modern society.
The new Oil Musuem opened on November 16, 2002!
